Liberty Mutual has an exciting opportunity for an attorney.  As a Field Counsel you will represent the company and its policyholders in civil litigation and workers' compensation matters involving claims for money damages or compensation for personal injury or property damage of a moderate value with moderately complex legal issues.
 
 Responsibilities:

    * Use Litigation Protocols to develop and revise appropriate legal strategy for discovery, investigation, handling and trial/hearing of cases or matters
    * Conduct necessary and appropriate discovery, hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations and similar proceedings. 
    * Research the law applicable to cases or matters; drafts legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs and opinions as required.  If requested, conduct settlement negotiations.
    *
      Advise, communicate and confer with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients, rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and advice.  Personally meet with, and maintain good relations and communications with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients as required.
    *
       Remain current with developments in the law; understand medical, scientific, construction, products, engineering or similar issues and defenses involved with cases or matters.
    *
       Prepare and conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims or other departments as required.
    *
       Provide daily direction and guidance to junior attorneys.
    *
      Understand and creatively use technology; apply technology to the process of law to improve quality and reduce cost.
    * Act as a team or group leader for an assigned group within the office.
    * Interface with Home Office Legal department.

Qualifications:
 
Case/Matter Experience: 0-5 years of progressively more mature litigation and case handling experience since Bar admission.  Sole file responsibility with supervision/ratification.  Lawyer must be admitted in Wisconsin.
 
Client Relations Skills: Lawyer must have solid basic client relations skills.  Ability to communicate clearly and earn the trust and confidence of claims personnel is expected.  Incumbent needs to quickly develop and then maintain excellent communications and relationships with clients, measured by formal and informal feedback from the claims clients.  This position requires a fundamental understanding of the insurance industry and Liberty Mutual business. The position requires a committed customer focus in situations where a modest level of sophistication is acceptable.
 
Supervision of Others/Delegation Skills: Incumbent must demonstrate basic capabilities in paralegal and support staff supervision for a high volume practice.
 
Operations/Compliance: Ability to understand and establish metrics, willingness to work within existing framework critical; collaboration abilities and aptitudes must be evident;
 
Office Systems and Use of Technology: Incumbent has a high degree of knowledge, comfort and capabilities with use of forms and templates and technology.
 
Case Management:: Incumbent is willing to learn and to develop critical litigation and operational skills. This includes ability for ongoing review of case strategy, stages and total matter management of cost.
 
Reputation in courts, jurisdictional expertise:  It is expected that the incumbent will develop this reputation over time.
 
Communication:  Basic communication skills and capabilities are very important to the success of this position.  Ability to deal constructively with Opposing Counsel is important.

Role Summary/Purpose

The Senior Counsel, Research is primarily responsible for overseeing and providing strategic legal support of the research compliance and research contracting segments of GE Healthcare. Acting as a strategic business partner the Senior Counsel is expected to provide advice to the senior P&L leaders on observed opportunities and strategic direction. Essential Responsibilities

- Work with the business leadership teams as a business partner to identify opportunities to drive business forward.- Work closely with GE personnel involved in drafting and negotiating research agreements, and reviewing and monitoring research agreements to assure compliance with research laws, regulations and ethics guidance.- Draft, review and negotiate strategic research agreements that protect against Anti-kickback and other legal exposure.- Provide oversight and advice. Create systems and tools for review of proposed research projects that facilitate compliance with state and federal Anti-kickback laws, FDA regulatory requirements, conflicts of interest guidance and privacy and data security requirements.- Provide oversight and create systems and tools to monitor ongoing research initiatives to assure compliance with FDA regulatory requirements and other applicable laws. Effectively address any concerns that may arise.- Clearly define liability risks and communicate risks to appropriate internal decision makers for discussion and resolution. Interface effectively with internal and external personnel to address legal and business issues relating to GE research initiatives.- Manage outside counsel, when brought in to assist.- Apply combined business and legal judgment to proposed deals, relationships and other issues requiring legal or compliance attention.
Qualifications/Requirements
