Role Summary/Purpose The Senior Counsel, Research is primarily responsible for overseeing and providing strategic legal support of the research compliance and research contracting segments of GE Healthcare. Acting as a strategic business partner the Senior Counsel is expected to provide advice to the senior P&L leaders on observed opportunities and strategic direction. Reports directly to the General Counsel for Healthcare Systems, and manages the research team. Essential Responsibilities - Work with the business leadership teams as a business partner to identify opportunities to drive business forward.- Work closely with GE personnel involved in drafting and negotiating research agreements, and reviewing and monitoring research agreements to assure compliance with research laws, regulations and ethics guidance.- Draft, review and negotiate strategic research agreements that protect against Anti-kickback and other legal exposure.- Provide oversight and advice. Create systems and tools for review of proposed research projects that facilitate compliance with state and federal Anti-kickback laws, FDA regulatory requirements, conflicts of interest guidance and privacy and data security requirements.- Provide oversight and create systems and tools to monitor ongoing research initiatives to assure compliance with FDA regulatory requirements and other applicable laws. Effectively address any concerns that may arise.- Clearly define liability risks and communicate risks to appropriate internal decision makers for discussion and resolution. Interface effectively with internal and external personnel to address legal and business issues relating to GE research initiatives.- Manage outside counsel, when brought in to assist.- Apply combined business and legal judgment to proposed deals, relationships and other issues requiring legal or compliance attention. Qualifications/Requirements - JD (or equivalent) with active bar membership- A minimum of 10 years of business law experience at a large law firm or corporate legal department, - Experience providing strategic research, compliance, advice, as well as drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex research agreements.- Experience in the Healthcare industry and previous exposure to medical industry regulations (FDA, Medicare/Medicaid anti-kickback).- Demonstrated experience in identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively and ability to make on the spot risk calls.- Demonstrated experience prioritizing conflicting demands from multiple business clients in an extremely fast paced environment.- Outstanding interpersonal and teaming skills skills; able to work effectively at all levels of the organization.- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate research issues in an easy to understand manner; strong working knowledge of English.- Previous experience using word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. * You must apply online at www.gecareers.com * You must be authorized to work in the United States * You must be wiling to complete a pre-employment background check and a pre- employment drug test. * You must be willing to work at our headquarters offices, located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work.
