GE Appliances & Lighting is an Affirmative Action Employer. Role Summary/Purpose GE Appliances & Lighting, headquartered in Louisville, KY has an opening for an Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel. Reporting into the Senior Counsel – Intellectual Property, the IP Counsel will assume responsibility for patent prosecution, portfolio management and development activities for GE Appliances & Lighting with a technology/product line approach.The ideal candidate will have prior in-house experience in patent/trademark prosecution and client counseling, preferably in electrical and electro-mechanical arts. Essential Responsibilities -Providing in-house counseling to the respective business managers and technical personnel on all other intellectual property related matters along a product line/technology approach;-Preparing freedom-to-practice studies regarding third party intellectual property rights;-Participating in design review meetings, brainstorming sessions and innovation workshops;-Drafting, negotiating and managing licenses, third- party technology developments, and non-disclosure agreements;-Overseeing and involvement in the invention disclosure submission & evaluation processes;-Coordinating trademark clearances, reviewing results and writing clearance reports, filing trademark applications and counseling management on trademark matters;-Providing intellectual property compliance training; -Communicating with outside attorneys; and -Providing other assistance and support to Technology and Legal department staff as required. Qualifications/Requirements -Juries Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. -Minimum 5 years experience in Intellectual Property law. -Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. -Member in good standing with a State Bar.-Patent application preparation and prosecution experience (preferable in the electrical and electro-mechanical arts).-Demonstrated ability to direct and manage outside counsel.-Fluent in English (oral & written). -Solid work ethic and commitment to job completion.-Strong oral and written communications skills.-Strong analytical skills. -Sound judgment in developing and implementing legal solutions. -Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a time pressured environment. -Demonstrated ability to develop process-driven solutions to issues.
